Greek Peak, a ski area in New York State, has embarked on an expansion plan designed to make it in to a four season resort, fulfilling a thirty-year dream of resort president Allen Kryger.
“Our concept was in the future at some point in time we were going to have to face the fact that the ski area if it was going to continue to grow would have to be part of a bigger resort complex that in fact had four seasons aspects to it,” said Mr Kryger.
Construction work has begun on the $33 million first phase which will add an indoor water park over 100 condominiums, a spa and fitness room. It is due for completion by summer 2007 and will mean the rare combination of ski resort and water park will be available for winter 2007-8.
The second phase of expansion will include a golf course and a conference centre at a further cost of anywhere from $10 to $20 million.
Greek Peak operates 30 trails served by eight lifts.
