The 14th South African National Ski and Snowboarding Championships were staged at Tiffindell Ski Resort in the Eastern Cape, Southern Drakensberg last weekend.

Ivan van Eck, Founding Director, said this week “Tiffindell has had an awesome snow season and more snow is expected … it just keeps snowing! The resort has experienced the coldest start to winter in 10 years, and record snowfalls in 7 years.”

“The atmosphere is always fantastic and the snow plentiful. The considerably high natural Snowfalls this year, together with the efficient snow making system has ensured thousands of guests have already skied and snowboarded since the end of May. Looking at weather models, and the resort with its unique micro climate, snow and cold weather looks good for the rest of the season which runs until mid September.” Mr van Eck continued.

Snow Sports SA ran various official events, including the big air and boarder cross. There were also be plenty of fun activities including snowman building and a genuine snow bar on display for guests. The contest also showcased South Africa’s top home grown black skiers like Ivan Faltsa (pictured).

“The Snow Festival is the prime weekend of our ski season. The slopes have the deepest base of snow and the snow quality is normally very good, before the spring thaw sets in,” concludes van Eck.

There is still limited availability at the resort in August.
