New Gondola Extends Milky Way to 440km, Apparently

Although not shown on trail maps and in officially published statistics, latest reports from the Milky Way ski area that straddles the French/Italian border claims that the area which hosted most of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic ski events now has 440km of runs following a new gondolas link to the village of Pragelato, home of Olympic cross country ski events.

The new gondola links Pragelato to Sestriere, itself lift linked to neighbouring Sauze d’oulx, Sansicaria, Cesana and Italy’s oldest resort of Claviere. The final resort in the chain is Montgenevre, this year celebrating a centenary of winter sports, over the border in France.

If confirmed the 440km total (up from 400km) would leapfrog the Paradiski’s total of 425km and other areas around Kitzbuhel (Ki-West), Megeve (Evasion Mont Blanc) and Zermatt (International) each hovering around the 400km mark thanks to recent expansions.
