Many of Spain’s 30+ ski areas have opened new lifts, runs, terrain parks and snowmaking this winter.
The rapidly expanding ski area at Aramón-Formigal in the Pyrenees has three new lifts and 10 more new pistes this year giving almost 18 kilometres (11 miles) more skiable area. The resort has also added a boardercross circuit. Resorts in the Aragon region have also clubbed together to create the new “7-resort” pass that gives unlimited skiing at all resorts in the area. An expansion of the area’s artificial snow production means that the resort’s four valleys are now linked together by snowmaking.
Cerler has one of the largest single expansions this winter with 11 kilometres (seven miles) of new piste served by a new lift. The resort has also opened a new snow park in the Rincón del Cielo area. The resorts of Valdezcaray and Port Ainé have also opened new snow parks.
Elsewhere new lifts have opened at Leitariegos, La Molina, Vallter 2000 and Sierra Nevada. The latter has also opened a new family piste.
